don Quijote - Santiago de Cuba
Description
Santiago is the second biggest city of Cuba, and a great
rival of Havana in Literature, Music and Politics. During
the 19th century, French settlers arrived and contributed
to the mix of Haitian, African and Spanish influences
that have made of Santiago the most Caribbean city of
Cuba. The Orient University is one of the leader institutions
in Cuba. Santiago has a great colonial atmosphere without
the 50´s buildings that can be found in Havana.
All the teachers are graduated from the university and
have been trained in the language education for foreigners.
The classes take place either in the professor’s
house, the host family house or -in case of a small group
- in one of the cultural centers. Don Quijote works with
his Cuban partner, UNEAC, one of the biggest organizations
in the island in the culture field.
Lodging
The school recommends lodging in family houses. The families
chosen as hosts live in the city residential district:
Reparto Sueño. The families offer single or double
rooms with half board.
Academics
There are three basic courses: language, language and
dance, and language and music. The language courses can
be individual or in small groups. The combined courses
of language and dance include salsa classes, mambo, rumba
and son. In the music courses the student can choose between
percussion and guitar.
