Beschreibung
The second city of Cuba is a strong rival of Havana in
literature, music and politics. This melting pot attracted
French and Haitian settlers during the 19th century, which
together with the Spanish and African influences had made
of Santiago the most Caribbean city of Cuba. Considering
that the first city mayor was the conqueror of Mexico
Hernan Cortez, is not surprising that the city still conserves
a Spanish colonial atmosphere., Santiago de Cuba was an
important port for five centuries, perfectly located on
a great bay surrounded by mountains.
